Carlton’s Sam Docherty recovering from testicular cancer surgery

The Blue’s co-captain hopes to return to pre-season training in December following surgery for a malignant testicular tumour.

After getting over the initial shock on hearing his diagnosis Sam is expecting to make a full recovery and hopes that his diagnosis has highlighted the importance of getting regular checks and seeking prompt medical advice. He hopes that his experience will remind others to look after themselves and support others going through similar experiences.

Carlton’s head of football Brad Lloyd said that Sam’s health is the Club’s number one priority and will continue to support him throughout this time. Sam has played 108 senior matches for Carlton and the Brisbane Lions. Read more…
